Sentimental Love

Isn’t it normal to fall in love with people from a book, a movie, or a series?

We think we know them, and life would be all rainbows with Chandler Bing.
At some point, we have to move on and find a real partner.

Or do we not?

Ideally, you should.

How do you know you are in sentimental love?

Let’s start with the fact that the person you are in love with is not real. If you only read about them or it’s only a TV character, then that’s it. Busted!

If you find it easier to fall in love with someone you don’t know, ask yourself why.

Think about it.

Another aspect of sentimental love is the abstractification of love in terms of time.

Do memories of past love deeply move you? Were you really in love when that love was present? It works the other way too.

Are you fantasizing about future love?

Lots of people do. It’s a general characteristic of modern people. We love to live everywhere except in the present. All we want to do is to escape the pain of reality and the loneliness of our lives. Maybe tomorrow will be happier, but your life happens today.

How do you get out?

Practice mindfulness. Try to build connections with real people and concentrate on the people that are present in your life. Try to think about who you want to be in the future rather than who you want to meet with.

What’s the worst that can happen?

You never live, and you might never experience how it feels to be in a healthy relationship.
