Mindful as F*ck - book review
Short and sweet. Honest and direct. The very first book you need on your mindful way to the future.
Why this book?
Reading a book without doing my research on it? That’s a no-go for me.
But because I needed a humorous, short, and easy-to-digest book to listen to while I folded the clothes, I took a risk.
Anyway, it was a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Yes, to listen to.
Ah, I don’t like audiobooks, but I had a lovely time with this HSP audiobook. So, I gave it a go.
Here is what I’ve found:
“Calm the hell down, live in the now, and get mindful as f*ck with these quick and snarky ways to live in the moment.
When the entire world seems on your ass about something, taking a second to chill out, collect your thoughts, and process your stress can help a lot.
Mindful As F*ck shows you how to be present, centered, and positive so you can live in the now regardless of how you’re feeling.”
Well, after this description, I was in.
What is this book about?
True that I’ve never slept through yoga, and I like green stuff.
Although, I had a microsleep once while meditating in the office with others. I felt so embarrassed. I really thought everyone saw it.
The truth is, no one cares about what you do because everyone is focusing on their sleep.
In this book, the author delves into what Meditation is.
Talks about Buddhism, Ayurveda, Reiki, Chakra Healing, and The Law of Attraction.
Haha, nope! It’s not an exhaustive exploration, but it’s well-written.
But she shares the basic knowledge you have to know before you decide to probe further. I would recommend this book to everyone interested in mindfulness. If you read through the book and are still interested, you will find plenty of books that provide in-depth knowledge on the topics Emily touched upon.
If you already read a book on this topic, you still can look at this book as an interesting approach. If nothing else, the unique language and the exercises she presents will engage you.
No kidding, 100 exercises!
Not like those cheesy “100 Muffin Recipe” cookbooks.
You know, where the batter is the same, but you decorate it with a different fruit or sprinkle, and they call it a ‘new recipe’. This book truly offers a hundred unique and enriching exercises, each one distinct, challenging, and rewarding in its own way. There is no false advertising here, just genuine variety.
Here are my top ten exercises:
- Love, Even for Shitty People — not because they deserve it, but because you do deserve it.
- Schnoz Knows Best — your nostrils are your best friends.
- Shake it Off — it feels right.
- Make Your Break Count — breathe in all the beauty and move your hips, your neck, or whatever feels right.
- Warrior Pose: Be a Bad Bitch! — it’s a quick ego pump pose.
- How Not To Cry In Public — oh, there is so much to learn in this world.
7. Sometimes Self-Care Sucks — yeah, sometimes everything sucks.
8. You’re a Crystal MoFo Now — they look nice, right?
9. Don’t Fill the Space with Bullshit — whatever you say, mean it!
10. Love Your Body At Your Own Pace
Actually, this one is my favourite. I just started self-love. It’s hard.
It’s always hard to be the first at something. Emily taught me to thank my body whenever I can. Take those baby steps and thank your feet for walking. Thank your nose for smelling a delicious coffee, chai latte, whatever. Focus on your health, eat what you want, and tell nice things to yourself. It sounds easy, but it can be challenging.
I hope you like it.
Let me know what you think.
Thank you for reading!
